The power of our mind is awesome, changing thoughts from negative to positive can influence the way we see the world. Virtually no two people will see a scene in the exact same way. As one person will choose to focus on certain elements, while the other person will choose to focus on different elements.
This also occurs when two people look upon a specific situation. One person may see the negative aspects of that situation, while another person will find the positive aspects of that same situation. For instance, if the electrical power goes out in your home, the person who has a negative outlook on things will just sit in the dark and bemoan the fact that the power is out. The person with a positive outlook will realize that this is an opportunity to get away from technology and spend some time with family or read a good book (via a flashlight or battery-powered lamp, of course).
In other words, the person with the negative outlook will just look at the unfortunate event of losing power as an excuse to just complain and do nothing, while the person with the positive outlook will look to take advantage of the unfortunate circumstance and make the best of the situation by doing something that he/she might not usually do.
Which person better describes you? If it’s the negative outlook, you may want to attempt to change your outlook to a more positive one. Studies have shown that changing thoughts from negative to positive and adopting a positive outlook on life is better for your health, as it can cause you less stress and make your immune system stronger. So, how do you go about changing your negative outlook into a positive one?
Start by encouraging yourself that the day will turn out to be a good day. If something doesn’t go according to plan, don’t fall into the trap of thinking that the rest of the day will not go according to plan. You could jokingly tell yourself that it will be “one of those days,” but not put much emphasis on it. Even if it does turn out to be “one of those days,” what’s the worst that could happen?
There are some screw-ups, things don’t go according to plan, and there are some difficulties. Chances are, you’ll still be alive, there will be another day tomorrow, and things can only “go up” from here, right?
Keeping the right perspective on a bad day or a single screw-up is part of having a positive mindset. In addition, adding humor to your day by not letting a mistake or a screw-up ruin your mood is a great way to deal with the challenges of the day, including those that unexpectedly occur.
The main point is that keeping a positive mindset is critical to enduring life’s challenges in the best possible manner. Let’s face it: Everyone deals with things that don’t go according to plan; there’s no escaping them. Usually, they’ll happen at inopportune times, too.
However, getting mad or depressed about it is not going to solve them; if anything, they will make you stronger (see the positive mindset there?). Therefore, look for the positive in a situation and utilize humor to help keep the proper perspective on a bad event or a bad day of events so that you realize that tomorrow is a new day and that things have to get better from here. Changing thoughts from negative to positive is essential for a happy life.
